The Black Brooklyn Renaissance Conference and Concert Saturday, October 23, 11am - 7pm Free! 11am - 5:30pm: Conference Woody Tanger Auditorium, Brooklyn College 6 - 7pm: Concert Levenson Recital Hall, Brooklyn College 2900 Campus Rd. and Hillel Pl. (Flatbush) Presented by BAC and the Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music at Brooklyn College with support from The New York Council for the Humanities and Eleanor Archie.
This day-long public conference brings together artists, critics and activists to explore the music, dance and ceremonial practices that inspired BAC's Black Brooklyn Renaissance project. Featuring music critic Greg Tate; master percussionist Neil Clarke; dancer Baraka de Soleil; Haitian master drummer Frisner Augustin, professor of African American music and culture, Kyra Gaunt and others. The day includes a drum circle and a post-conference performance by the New Cookers Jazz Ensemble featuring Kenyatta Beasley, Keith Loftis and Anthony Wonsey.
This event is presented as part of Black Brooklyn Renaissance, Black Arts + Culture, 1960 – 2010, Brooklyn Arts Council's yearlong project celebrating artists of the African Diaspora in Brooklyn.
